Sustainability is extremely important to the Cleverley team, and we want to ensure the carbon footprint of your trainer is as minimal as possible. We have incorporated the very distinctive ‘LACTAE HEVEA’ sole into the shoes construction, which is 100% natural and sustainable.
The soles are made from virgin hevea milk, and the purity of this results in a truly exceptional natural sole. Exclusive traditional know-how gives rise to the inimitable microstructure of tiny air bubbles, a guarantee of blissful comfort. A subtle alchemy of tradition and modernity, this sole was a no brainer for us when designing the Jack trainer.
THE SCIENCE
Grown on large tropical plantations in Asia, the hevea tree conceals a precious and exceptional product: its milk. Spiral incisions are made into the tree’s bark releasing this virgin hevea milk which is then harvested. The harvest of the hevea milk, far from weakening the tree, actually helps it to flourish. By the time one end of the part which has been cut has been reached, the other end has regenerated and a new cycle can begin.
The hevea milk is refined using a unique artisanal process, resulting in the incomparable and completely natural LACTAE HEVEA sole. The process used to make the sole is totally unique, and is similar to the refining method used in cheese production. This consists of pouring of the milk into the moulds, coagulation, baking, and then drying.
FROM START TO FINISH
The soles reflect the ethos we wanted to implement into our first trainer collaboration — No natural forest is cut down. After 25 years of exploitation, the old tree is felled and a new tree is planted. The end product of an environmentally-friendly, artisanal process carried out entirely by hand by the craftsmen of a human-sized company, the LACTAE HEVEA sole is in keeping with a sustainable development approach. The sole helps to preserve the planet’s resources and thereby supports sustainable development, from start to finish.
